Activities with Your Puppy#/Title# Many breeds have a long history of being bred for a specific job. If you chose a Border Collie puppy, for instance, you have a very active puppy on your hands. If you don't have sheep for your puppy to expend her genetic energy on, you need to come up with another job for her to do. Sporting breeds, such as Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers, also were bred for a job. If you don't hunt, you need to find something else for them to do, or they can become hyperactive and destructive. High-energy puppies benefit from energetic activities that the two of you can share. However, don't think that you have to have a high-energy breed to have fun with your puppy. Lower-key puppies can enjoy plenty of activities, too. Also, although some registries only allow purebred dogs to participate, others allow mixed-breed puppies to join in the fun.
